Let's CA: Let's go to Calabria LET'S CA - LOCRIDE E AREA GRECANICA Who I am Local history Routes Nella home troverete una rassegna degli eventi organizzati nel corso di questo primo anno di attività, dal più recente andando a ritroso. Immaginando la Ferdinandea 23. 04. 2023 - Bosco di Ferdinandea Abbiamo iniziato cominciato il periodo primaverile con un evento dedicato all'immaginazione. Vi abbiamo fatto immergere nella storia di un passato recente , in cui la nostra regione mostrava la ricchezza delle sue materie prime minerarie. Abbiamo esplorato la Ferdinandea, nei pressi di Stilo , accompagnati dalla guida Giorgio Pascolo, dell’ Associazione Trekking Stilaro. L’ evento è organizzato in collaborazione con We’re South, la rete di turismo responsabile che opera nella provincia di Catanzaro. Abbiamo pensato di unire più attività, stimolando i partecipanti a vivere l’esperienza facendosi trascinare dalle suggestioni visive e racconti del luogo , dalla sua storia e da riferimenti della letteratura. Proprio per questo ogni partecipante ha ricevuto un taccuino , su cui sarà possibile appuntare o fare qualche schizzo nelle tappe previste dal percorso. Un’ altra collaborazione, che si collega al tema della creatività e dell’immaginazione, è stata quella con l’illustratore Deicolmicolmo, che ha lasciato ad ogni partecipante un ricordo personalizzato della giornata insieme! We are inside the complex also called the Southern Alps or the Calabrian Alps . Geologically, the formation of the mountain massif precedes that of the Italian Apennines. The territory of the Aspromonte National Park as we know it today was established in 1989 formalized by the Framework law on Protected Areas but was concretely implemented in January 1994. It is the 6th park established in Italy. The morphology of the territory is indented except for its summits. The shape is conical and finds its center in the Montalto , 1956 meters high. From the top of the valleys branch out crossed by the traditional rivers. Around Montalto there are Monte Basilicò , Monte Cannavi , Monte Scorda and Monte Antenna . The forest covers 50% of the Protected Area The municipalities that make up the territory of the Park are 37 for a total extension of 64,153 hectares entirely included in the Metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria. The Park territory takes its name from the Aspromonte Massif , which means candid, white and dates back to the Greek populations of the Ionian coast who admired the white mountain formations of the massif. The flora is very rich and heterogeneous thanks to the not too high altitudes and the mitigation of the sea. The same goes for the fauna: there are many species of mammals here including the wolf, the wild boar, the wild cat, the fox, the beech marten, the badger, the weasel. ​ The local history of the Calabrian municipalities is very complex and deserves some insights that you will find below. They have totally changed over the centuries. The reasons for this change are often linked to natural disasters, especially earthquakes. A watershed date is represented by the earthquake of 1783 which significantly changed the landscape and the livability of the area. Many villages have been emptied and moved several kilometers away causing dismay and confusion in the inhabitants, mostly farmers and strongly attached to their land. From this moment on the Calabrian characteristic of the "dual country" was born , divided between the historic village and the inhabited center on the coast. It is estimated that out of 183 countries destroyed by the ferocity of the land movement, only 33 were rebuilt. The upheaval of the territory has caused serious consequences for the economic and social fabric, weighing on the situation of isolation of the internal countries and leading to depopulation . The psychological consequences of these devastations affected the inhabitants and their lifestyle. Those who cultivated the land had to change the way and type of crops. Rubbettino 2015 Other trade routes: the traditional pilgrimage to Bombile Local culture Travel, pilgrimages and religion The religious journey in the contemporary imagination is automatically associated with a devotion to the Saint or the place where he is for strictly personal reasons. The intimate view of religion focuses only on part of the theme as a whole. In reality, the religious holiday brought with it an economic and social movement made up of exchanges of livestock, trade, the movement of entire families. It favored the encounter between people from normally unreachable areas and the knowledge of another culture. It enriched the participants who walked it using streets called "ways of songs": real communication routes with shortcuts that gave back a new vision of the landscape and a different meaning to the place. ​ In Locride there are several religious pilgrimage destinations that have fulfilled this function: the Madonna della Grotta di Bombile, the feast of the Saints of Riace, the Sanctuary of Polsi . ​ The uniqueness of these events was manifested in every action carried out during the pilgrimage: from songs, to dances, to the consumption of immeasurable food. ​ Unfortunately, some of these festivals have undergone changes over the years. ​ Among these, the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Grotta is unfortunately currently no longer accessible due to a landslide that completely destroyed the church in 2004.

A line of conjunction between the Ionian sea and the Tyrrhenian sea passing through the hinterland Who to contact: Kalabria Trekking Association Difficulty and travel times: the route has numerous height differences that allow you to get from the Ionian Sea to the Tyrrhenian Sea. The total number of km traveled is 55 km, divided into 3 daily stages. Departure from the Soverato seafront 1st stage : 12 km. From Soverato to Petrizzi on asphalt and dirt road. 2nd stage : 23.5 km. From Petrizzi to Monterosso Calabro. The path is all dirt and more tiring because you reach the highest point of the path, Monte Coppari. At this point it is possible to observe the niviere , holes in which snow was stored to be sold in the form of blocks of ice in the summer months. 3rd stage : 19.1 km. From Monterosso to Pizzo Calabro. The difficulty in this section is medium and the route is mostly downhill, on asphalt and dirt roads. In this section you cross the naturalistic oasis of Maierato, protected by the WWF with numerous species of flora and fauna, among which the gray heron , symbol of the Serre Regional Park, stands out. Proceeding towards Pizzo Calabro you can see on one side the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia towards the island of Stromboli and on the other the Orsomarso mountains, in the Pollino National Park. ​ Recommended periods: from April to June; from September to November. Regarding the equipment , it is advisable to have water supplies as there are no sources or fountains along the way. The itinerary is also suitable for families, thanks to the presence of numerous affiliated structures in which to stay at discounted prices by showing the traveler's passport . 2. Path of the brigand 2. 7 days Retrace steps and history from Aspromonte to Serre Who to contact: GEA - Aspromonte Excursionists Group Difficulty and travel times. The route winds for 140 km , it is recommended for those who want to immerse themselves in an experience out of the ordinary. It develops along the ridge between the Aspromonte and the Calabrian Serre. You can decide to travel only part of the route, stopping at the welcome points. The path was recovered in the 1980s thanks to signage and maintenance work by the GEA. In addition, the group took care in a particular historical moment to recover the path also from a cultural point of view. The name of the path recalls the presence of the brigands who crossed it in moments of struggle , rebellions and revenge . The path can be accessed from several points; it can also be experienced by the little ones as a daily educational experience, immersed in the woods. ​ Below is a mirror of the stages planned to complete the entire path ​ First stop : from Gambarie to Piani di Carmelia. 16 km, accessible in 5/6 h. From the square of Gambarie you go towards the wood, and cross it up to the Fiumara Salvolavecchia. ​ Second stage : from Piani di Carmelia to Zervò. 10 km, walking 4-5 h. Third stage : from Zervò to Passo del Mercante. This is undoubtedly the most physically tiring stage. The total of the route in one day is 26 km, which can be covered in 8-10 h. Fourth stage : from Passo del Mercante to Passo della Limina. 12 km, 4-5 h. Fifth stage : From Passo della Limina to Croce ferrata. 12 km, 4/5 h. Sixth stage : from Croce ferrata to Mongiana. 14 km, 4/5 h. Seventh stage, divided into two parts. A: from Mongiana to Bivolgi / Stilo 24 km 7/8 h. B : from Mongiana to Serra San Bruno 18 km 6/7 h. 3. 3. Path of English Source: Site of itineraries and places 7 days Between Hellenophonic villages and ancient rivers Who to contact: Naturaliter Associations and Compagnia dei Cammini The journey was relaunched in 2019 thanks to the collaboration between the two associations mentioned above and retraces the steps taken by the English traveler Edward Lear in the mid-nineteenth century. The total length of the walk is 110 km. Difficulty and travel times: the path has different gradients in the various stages of travel. 1st stage : about 18 km. The itinerary begins in the Grecanica area, in Pentedattilo and the stage ends in Bagaladi. 2nd stage : from Bagaladi to Amendolea di Condofuri. About 18 km. 3rd stage: from Amendolea to Bova passing through Gallicianò. About 18 km. 4th stage : from Bova to the viewpoint of Monte Grosso (and back to Bova) with a circular route for a total of 19 km. 5th stage : from Bova to Palizzi, length: 12km. 6th stage : from Palizzi to Pietrapennata, length: about 12 km. 7th stage : from Pietrapennata to Staiti. The last stage is about 12 km long. ​ The path is not completely marked, but for the most part it has logos of the path and the identifying white and red stripes. It is advisable to purchase a map at the beginning of the route for greater safety. ​ 4. 4. Monte Tre Pizzi 1 day Route from Ciminà Who to contact: Visit Aspromonte Association A ring route to be carried out quietly even independently without the need to be guided by a hiking group. ​ The mountain allows a view of the Ionian Sea and is so named for its characteristic three-pointed shape (called lace in dialect ). Climbing to the top you can see the remains of religious buildings of particular historical value. The path starts from the center of the Borgo di Ciminà , reachable from Locri to from Ardore where it is possible to leave the car. In front of us the three rock spurs are already clearly visible. The first part involves going uphill on an asphalted road. Continuing on, you will find a marked mule track on the left CAI 213 . Continue on the road until you cross a hairpin bend with an icon and a crucifix. From here we keep to the path to the right ( La Fimmana , at 200 meters). We are already at the highest altitude and the slope of the path disappears; you enter a grove to reach the top. From here the village of Antonimina is clearly visible. Returning to the CAI path marked up to the junction with a path from which a descent begins. From here, short uphill and downhill sections alternate and the path becomes more rocky. After passing a hill on the left you arrive at a rocky peak that precedes the Tre Pizzi and then a small path leads to the central spur at a modest height of 710 meters. For the descent, return to the crossroads with a rest area and CAI sign and take the path on the left (southbound). You go down to the valley along the Mediterranean scrub, continuing with a moderate slope you come to a short stretch where the path is lined with dry stone walls. Advancing along the path the path becomes stony and you have to be careful to orient yourself. Taking as a reference the direction that proceeds next to a rubber tube, accompanied by a row of double dry stone walls, you arrive at the gate that leads in the area of a farm. Here you can see the CAI signs that we encountered uphill for the Tre Pizzi. We go down along the service road between typical vegetation of prickly pears and holm oaks and you arrive at the starting point: the square of Ciminà. The path can be covered in 2 and a half hours. Path length: ​ Recommended periods: the route can be done at any time of the year. Difficulty: medium / low level of difficulty (Tourists - Hikers) 5. 5. Pietracappa ring and Roghudi geosites 1 day Excursion to the center of the "valley of the great stones": Pietracappa The municipalities concerned are Natile and San Luca Pietracappa is striking both for its size and for the dense vegetation in which it is set: heather, mastic, myrtle, strawberry tree, chestnut, holm oak, mint and oregano bushes. The imposing monolith occupies about 4 hectares of land and rises to over 100 meters. ​ The starting point of this circular trail is the village of Natile . Arriving at the Hermitages of San Pietro it is possible to see these small cavities dug by the Basilan monks to practice prayer. The shelter of San Pietro is very suggestive because the beds used for rest are visible. One of the few symbols of "recent" anthropization of the place dates back to the Byzantine period: in the locality of San Giorgio you can visit the ruins of a Byzantine church. From here you can see the round stone on the left; d ahead though, Walker is the immense Pietracappa. The geological origin of the rock is polygenic sedimentary , i.e. composed of pebbles of various kinds. ​ From here the path takes place in reverse, and allows you to fully see the silhouette of Pietracappa wrapped in vegetation. Climbing the monolith is not recommended due to the lack of support points but you can approach the monolith by climbing a smaller rock from which enthusiasts can practice birdwatching. Source: Calabria Greca website If you are in the area, other interesting geosites can be viewed in the municipality of Roghudi . It is about the milk boilers and the Rocca del Drago ; both very fascinating for the legends that surround them although their origin remains unknown today: according to some their shape is the work of man, according to others they are natural rocks. ​ How to reach them: from Bova Marina go up towards Bova Superiore and passing the village you will find tourist signs. 6. Path of peasant civilization 6. 1 day Path inside the village of Bova Designed and built by Saverio Micheletta with the support of the Municipality of Bova An open-air museum in the Greek village to find ancient peasant tools. The museum itinerary winds through the alleys of Bova, where the main tools of the peasant tradition have been installed. ​ Walking through the village you can see: water mills and animal traction mills, presses and presses, millstones for pressing grapes, drinking troughs for animals, presses used for the extraction of the essence of bergamot. The meaning of this path is a meeting of the origins, rediscovering the works of fathers, grandparents and mothers who preceded us. Another way to tell the territory and its products, reconstruct its economy and appreciate them as a lifeblood and recognized excellence. ​ ​ 7. Path of the Greeks 7. 1 day In the northern Aspromonte on the border with the Serre Path traced by CAI - Italian Alpine Club 212 of the Aspromonte National Park The starting point of this circular path is the village of Mammola , located 9 km from the Ionian Sea, at the gates of the Aspromonte. From Mammola take the dirt road that runs along the Torbido stream for about 1km. From here you reach the Macarie stream and taking another path you arrive at the Barillaro palace, dating back to the seventeenth century. Continue with a climb during which you can stop and cool off at the Seja fountain . This leads to Passo Sella . ​ From this point we proceed towards the Fossi di San Nicodemo plateau from which we can see Monte Kellerano. Here it is located the Sanctuary of San Nicodemo , a Basilian hermit famous for having brought his spirituality to these lands and patron saint of Mammola. From the churchyard of the sanctuary you enter the basement building which preserves remains of the walls and apses of the ancient monastery Finally, a natural road leads the walker to the Limina pass . ​ The route starts near the former railway Difficulty and travel times: between 3 and 4 hours Length of the route: 9.5 km The path is accessible all year round ​ 8. 8. Basilan Way - Gerace / Ardore 1 day Small part of the route that involves Calabria from Rocca Imperiale (Cosentino Ionian) to the Cathedral of Reggio Calabria The starting point of this stage of the immense Basilano journey is the village of Gerace. Difficulty and travel times: The route is signposted and accessible to everyone throughout the year Length of the route: 17 km for a total of 6-8 hours of walking. On the way you cross the rivers of Gerace and Condojanni. On the way you cross the Municipality of Antonimina where there is an important thermal plant and the small village of Bombile , famous for the presence of one of the most important places of Marian worship in the province, the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Grotta , of which unfortunately remain only some remains due to a landslide in 2004. 9. 9. From Ferruzzano to the Rudina wood 1 day From the town on the coast to the dense vegetation of the forest Who to contact: Kalabria Experience Association, People in Aspromonte, Rudina Association ​ The Bosco di Rudina is located in the hilly area of the Ionian side of the province of Reggio Calabria. The wood is part of the municipality of Ferruzzano , but also includes the municipalities of Caraffa del Bianco and Sant'Agata del Bianco and extends for a total of 177 hectares . The name "Rudina" derives from the Greek of Calabria and means the place where pomegranates are born. ​ The uniqueness of the forest is represented by its being one of the few examples of low-altitude forest formation, at altitudes between 200 and 400 meters above sea level. The wood has a remarkable richness in vegetation: in addition to the more classic holm oak we find the farnetto and other tree species such as the Neapolitan maple, the trilobed maple, the ossifillo ash or the black hornbeam. The presence of this thick vegetation is possible thanks to the orientation of the territory to the north which gives the area a cool and humid climate compared to the rest of the surrounding area. Osmunda regalis L. is among the rare and endangered species of flora, known for very few mountain stations in the region. ​ Of naturalistic interest are the millstones of the Rudina wood, also known as the wine wood due to their presence. It is about 20 rock millstones used for the pressing of wine ; real winemaking tanks built by digging in the sandstone. Their presence reveals that the place was inhabited by many civilizations of the past. The road that crosses the Rudina wood connected the sea to the mountain. 10. 10. Samo - Precacore - Gole Verde - Palecastro 1 day From the new site to the old village The ruins of Precacore are perched on the hill of Palecastro. To divide the old and the new inhabited center there is a fiumara, the fiumara di Santa Caterina . ​ The route is a loop starting from Samos . The length of the route is 3 / 4h and the difficulty is low (beginner / Tourist level). It can be done all year round. ​ It starts from the center of Samo where some signs indicate the way to reach Precacore. A downhill road leads to the Santa Caterina stream, a tributary of the La Verde river . Crossing the recently built Santa Caterina bridge, you can admire the ancient stone bridge on the left. Cross it and climb up to the source of the Rocca. From here begins the path to reach the ruins of Precacore. The path continues at times with steps, at times on the rock. Here are located some bas-reliefs depicting the scenes of the Via Crucis and donated by the Samese families. At the last point the climb becomes steeper and the view of the ruins of the village from the peak becomes more and more suggestive. The ruins in recent years have been recovered, reconstructing them almost completely and are the subject of study by the University of Calabria for a project to enhance the larger area. From here you go up to the church of S. Giovanni, Patron Saint of Samo who is celebrated on August 29 with a procession from the village. The church preserves the remains of a fresco depicting a Black Madonna. Continuing along a path immersed in the Mediterranean scrub towards the locality Giulia. First you reach the Molia plateau, where you can see olive groves, and continue towards the panoramic points: the rock spike called " Prachi " and " Timpa di don Brazzito "; from here you can admire the gorges of the La Verde river . From the highest point, return to the path already traveled until you enter a mule track that leads to Palecastro . From here, take the driveway that descends towards the Santa Caterina valley and - after passing it - continue along the paved road that climbs up to the center of Samo. 11. 11. The forest of the fairies 1 day Excursion to involve the little ones The fairy forest is an opportunity to enjoy an excursion with the little ones and live an experience with your children without having to give up a small path in Aspromonte. The route involves the municipality of Santo Stefano d'Aspromonte, of which Gambarie is a fraction. The signage is not the best but there are some wooden signs and the path is very simple so getting lost is practically impossible. It is a circular route that - arriving by car - starts from the Fontana di tre aie , a place where you can leave your private vehicle. Facing the fountain, take the first path on the left slightly uphill and once you have traveled about 50 meters and turned left, the path will lead into the woods. The recommended periods to capture all its colors are those of the autumn months, but it is also possible to follow it in spring and summer. After about a km of walking through the woods, we head towards a water source. Paying attention to the Vallescura waterfall signpost, take another small path on the left. After a few tens of meters you arrive at the waterfall, protected on the sides by the rock. Your children will be grateful to you! 12. From here you start walking towards Precacore. After the Santa Caterina bridge, continue keeping to the right until you reach Molia . From here continue left on a natural road, pass Passo Muleto arriving at the crossroads with the path coming from Calamacia . Pierluigi Ranieri e Alessandro Madia: valorizzazione dei sistemi turistico culturali; Marzia De Maria: Storia dell'arte e beni culturali; Daniele Trimboli: Lingue e culture moderne. Gli itinerari sono concentrati soprattutto nella provincia di Crotone e Cosenza, ma presto inizieranno a proporre esperienze e percorsi nella provincia di Reggio Calabria. L'idea del progetto è far conoscere luoghi pressoché inesplorati mantenendo fede al territorio e alle sue caratteristiche. Il testo, scritto da Paride Leporace, narra di una figura politica molto importante per la Calabria: Mancini fu Ministro della Sanità promuovendo la campagna vaccinale contro la poliomelite e segretario del Psi dando voce a molte battaglie sui diritti civili. Finanziò librerie, fondò il Giornale di Calabria e lottò contro l’abusivismo edilizio. ​ L'autore Paride Leporace dialogherà con il Senatore della XIV legislatura Franco Crinò ed il giornalista Gianluca Albanese . Un laboratorio residenziale a Camini Oggi vi parliamo di un seminario molto interessante per il recupero della tradizione musicale: si tratta de I cammini della Lira , un percorso laboratoriale sulla modalità turco - ottomana proposto da La Società della Lira in collaborazione con il Consorzio Musicisti Calabresi e l’Associazione AREASUD . Il laboratorio si svolgerà l'11 e il 12 giugno , presso gli spazi messi a disposizione dal comune di Camini . L'obiettivo del percorso è la riappropriazione della cultura musicale . Il seminario si propone presentare uno tra i linguaggi musicali modali più importanti e più studiati, ovvero quello della grande tradizione che rimonta all’epoca d’oro dell’Impero Ottomano. Una Femmina: il cinema calabrese in Calabria Domani, sabato 26 Febbraio presso il Cinema Vittoria di Locri si terrà l'incontro con parte del cast del film "Una Femmina ", per la regia di Francesco Costabile . La pellicola è stata presentata nella sezione Panorama del Festival del Cinema di Berlino 2022 . Il regista - al suo esordio sul grande schermo - si è diplomato al Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia di Roma. L'occasione per dar voce ad un conterraneo che s'inserisce nel filone di film calabresi nati negli ultimi anni. Il piacere del teatro Se l'attrattività di un territorio passa anche dalla sua offerta culturale, oggi ci spostiamo di qualche chilometro rispetto al nostro solito "raggio d'azione" per parlare di un valido evento teatrale: presso l' Auditorium Comunale di Polistena la Compagnia Dracma porta in scena "Un uomo a metà ". Lo spettacolo narra la storia di Giuseppe, un rappresentante di articoli religiosi, che con un matrimonio alle porte si interroga sulla libertà dell'individuo a partire dalla scoperta della sua impotenza. Portato in scena con acuta ironia dal pluripremiato Gianluca Cesale, (con la regia di Roberto Zorn Bonaventura) lo spettacolo utilizza l’impotenza sessuale sia come metafora dell’impotenza a vivere sia come grimaldello per svelare le mille ipocrisie della nostra società. Scegliere dove vivere L'associazione "Angela Serra" - sezione Locride compie un passo importante per rendere vivibile il nostro territorio: la proposta di un progetto per realizzare all'interno dell'Ospedale di Locri un'area da circa 1000 mq da mettere a disposizione del reparto di oncologia . Il progetto prevede che la stessa associazione si faccia carico delle spese attivando una campagna di raccolta fondi nella comunità della Locride affiancata dal supporto di conterranei dai volti noti. L'obiettivo è la riduzione del "turismo sanitario", concetto purtroppo caro alla nostra terra. Un'iniziativa simbolica è stata già realizzata con una donazione di un euro e la realizzazione di un cartellone pubblicitario in cui ogni donatore ci ha "messo la faccia" attraverso una foto. Questo perché si parte sempre dall'esigenza espressa dalla comunità. La sezione Locride di "Angela Serra" è incarnata nella figura di Attilio Gennaro , un medico originario di Marina di Gioiosa Ionica che crede nel progetto da tempo e che mette il suo impegno affinché esso possa realizzarsi, accompagnato in questo percorso dal primario del reparto di Oncologia dell'Ospedale di Locri. Insieme possiamo decidere dove curarci, e quindi dove vivere. 26 gennaio Il ritrovamento dei Bronzi di Riace compie 50 anni L' Associazione Italiana Cultura Classica - sezione Locride (AICC ) festeggia i 50 anni dal ritrovamento delle due mitiche statue. La professoressa Maria Caterina Aiello , presidente della sezione, ha organizzato un incontro a cui partecipano importanti personalità esperte di arte antica: Daniele Castrizio , professore ordinario di Numismatica presso il Dipartimento di Civilità Antiche e moderne dell'Università di Messina e Paola Colace , professoressa ordinaria di Filologia Classica presso lo stesso dipartimento. Per seguirla potete visitare il link Cenni storici Realizzati presumibilmente intorno alle metà del V secolo a.C., sono considerati tra le testimonianze dirette dei grandi maestri scultori dell'età antica. Le statue furono ritrovate nell'agosto 1972 nella località Porto Forticchio di Riace Marina e ripescate in maniera fortuita, senza adeguata attrezzatura. I cosiddetti "giovane" e "vecchio" vennero restaurati per la prima volta tra il 1975 e il 1980 a Firenze, per poi continuare tra il '92 e il '95 a Reggio Calabria. L'ultima parte del restauro si concluse nel 2013 presso la sede dei Consiglio Regionale. Le statue sono state riportate al Museo di Reggio Calabria il 12 dicembre 2014. Si tratta di due statue di bronzo, con particolari in argento, calcite e rame. Le opere raffigurano un oplita (Bronzo A) e un re guerriero (Bronzo B). Furono realizzate ad Argo, nel Peloponneso, probabilmente per mano del medesimo Maestro e furono già esposte in passato, come testimoniano la presenza di un basamento di piombo posto al di sotto dei piedi dei due guerrieri e i danni causati al braccio del bronzo B. L' evento sarà guidato dall'Associazione Trekking Stilaro che condurrà i partecipanti tra le vie di un borgo che sul modello Riace accoglie sin dagli anni '90 cittadini extracomunitari, facendo rivivere antichi mestieri grazie al loro lavoro. L'incontro con l'autore avrà inizio alle h 18 ed è patrocinato dal Comune di Caulonia. Il titolo del libro s'incentra sul Faggio (detto appunto Fago), elemento naturale attorno al quale si diramano le vicende del racconto. Un libro adatto a chi vuole esplorare anche con l'immaginazione l'Aspromonte. Uscite cinematografiche: Il buco di Michelangelo Frammartino 1 ottobre Uscito nelle sale lo scorso 23 Settembre e ispirato ad una storia vera, Il buco è un film che ha dell'incredibile per le condizioni avventurose nelle quali è stato girato. S'ispira ad un evento accaduto nel 1961 quando un gruppo speleologico milanese formato da 12 esperti, decise di sfidare la natura e la verticalità montuosa, alla scoperta di un territorio misterioso e in parte sconosciuto, nel Pollino. in Calabria. Il buco rappresenta l’Abisso del Bifurto , una grotta profonda 687 metri nel cuore ruvido del Pollino calabrese. Il film è stato definito dallo stesso Frammartino come "un viaggio nell'ignoto" poiché la macchina da presa è scesa a 400 mt di profondità. Un film che si spinge oltre la percezione dell'occhio umano, agreste e sofisticato allo stesso tempo. Viste le origini genitoriali di Caulonia, Paese che ha ringraziato durante la premiazione alla Mostra del Cinema di Venezia , il regista presenterà il film venerdì prossimo - 1 ottobre - presso il Cinema Vittoria di Locri , sala blu. The CAI Italy Path 6 days CAI - Aspromonte Section (RC) The Italian Alpine Club Aspromonte Section of Reggio Calabria promotes a 6-day trek , scheduled from 28 June to 3 July 2021 on the affected area which is part of the Sentiero Italia . What is the CAI Italy Path? It is a route traced by the CAI that crosses the entire peninsula, for a total of 700 km divided into over 500 stages. During the itinerary organized by the Aspromonte Section, the seven stages of competence of the Section "from Reggio Calabria to Passo della Limina" will be explored. ROUTES Pt. 2 THE WATERFALLS My suggestions on the paths that lead to streams 1. Caccamelle waterfalls 3. Galasia and Mundu 2. La Scialata (or Torrente Levadìo) 4. Marmarico or Bivongi waterfalls 5. Maesano waterfalls 6. Forgiarelle or ferraina waterfalls 7. Schioppo waterfalls and ladders 8. Cascades of Pietra Cappa 9. Cascata di Salino 1. Caccamelle waterfalls Waterfalls near the Monte Tre Pizzi Who to contact: People in Aspromonte Length: 9km Journey time: 4h Difficulty: easy No water along the route. To reach the Caccamelle waterfalls, follow a section of path no 213 of the Aspromonte National Park which leads from Ciminà to Moleti . The name derives from the shape of the ponds which resembles that of amphorae (in dialect cuccumedi ) used to transport water. A path that starts from the center of the Borgo di Ciminà to get to the water source. The departure is from Piazza dell'Addolorata ; from here, after a few meters towards the mountains, take a road on the left which is paved for a stretch. Continuing, you follow a path for a few hundred meters until you reach a pitch marked by a fence. Proceed along the fence towards the mountain and after a while take a path on the left. This part of the route led to the Old Mother , used by shepherds in the past for their flock. From this point the route winds along the Mediterranean scrub. A downhill stretch of the route leads to an old farmhouse where a dry stone wall is visible. Climb to the right of the wall and then cross it. At this point you can still admire the ancient shelters made for livestock. Continuing on the clearly visible path you reach a crossroads where if you keep the left after a while you reach the main waterfall, called Candela della Caccamelle for the straight jet. ​ On the way back we take the road to the left uphill. Proceed along an easy path that leads to the paved road that leads from Ciminà to the crest of the Apennines. Continuing down this road after about 2km you return to the starting point, the square of Ciminà. ​ 2. La Scialata (or Torrente Levadìo) Naturalistic path that runs along the Fiumara Municipality of San Giovanni di Gerace Journey time 2.30 Difference in altitude from 600 to 850 meters above sea level Difficulty: Tourist (beginner) ​ The trail begins in the locality Giancé , reachable in 15 minutes by car from San Giovanni di Gerace. From the car park, continue on a dirt road for about 20 minutes until you cross the Levadio stream near the Fellare waterfall. From this point the ascent of the river begins and it is possible to cool off before the start of the route. After enjoying the waterfall, take a path along a path to the right of the waterfall. Continuing on the path you will cross the Marasà , Schiavone and Scogli waterfalls. The entire path connects the locality of Fellare with the picnic area of Cannavarè-Scialata . Here it is possible to eat surrounded by nature. 3. Galasia and Mundu From the jump to the mouth of the waterfall Who to contact: Aspromonte Wild Municipality of Molochio, Grancu locality Travel time: about 5 h round trip Directions: A3 motorway exit Gioia Tauro, Taurianova, Molochio difficulty: medium Altitude: 600 meters above sea level recommended period: spring / summer ​ The route is well signposted and well known. Once in Molochio you will find the signs, from here begins an easy downhill path that reaches a source which flows on the right side of the path and where you can refuel for the rest of the path. Concluding the descent you reach a stream that the Jamundu locals and that provides the revenue from the Mundu waterfall. After passing the stream, you proceed with a climb in a tree-lined stretch where the signs will lead to a descent. The path allows you to see both jumps of the waterfall: the smallest of 15 meters and the largest of 35 meters in height. In the place there is a luxuriant vegetation and the waterfalls are set among the rocks. Retracing the path to meet again you return to the stream and with a little attention you can get up to the top of the waterfall to watch the two jumps that proceed side by side. The path leads to the base of the waterfall where in the summer months it is possible to cool off in the cold body of water ​ Vegetation curiosity : presence of an ancient species of giant fern ( Woodwardia radicans) ​ ​ 4. Marmarico or Bivongi waterfalls The highest waterfall in the Southern Apennines Municipality of Bivongi, Fiumara dello Stilaro Height 114 meters Ring route Duration: 5h Difficulty: beginner Length: about 8 km Recommended periods: if you want to enjoy the rich vegetation, spring and autumn. If you want to immerse yourself, the summer. ​ To reach the waterfall you can follow two different paths, the most complete one involves the departure from the inhabited center of Bivongi . Moving away from the center, you go along the riverside where you can visit the mill " do 'furnu ", dating back to the 11th century. The name derives from the fact that a steel factory stood next to the mill. Continue on the paved road. At the junction for the Green park, keep left and the real route begins, on a natural road. Continuing along the path you will come to a second crossroads for the Guida baths . Continue the climb and arrive at the Droma plains. At this point you can stop at the Pizzicarella Fountain and continuing down the hill you can see a small waterfall, the Droma waterfall . Continuing, the climbs begin again and you can see the river, up to the crossing of the aqueduct bridge. After crossing it, continue along the river and cross it on a small wooden bridge. Here you can stop again at a fountain and then take the path back into an holm oak wood. After a few minutes of walking, you will turn to the small lake at the base of the waterfall. From there you can continue to see the waterfall from above in all its majesty. ​ To reduce the timing, you can start the path from the Green park instead of from the village of Bivongi. Along the way it is possible to meet a rare species of flower: the rock carnation . ​ 5. Maesano waterfalls also called Cascate dell'Amendolea A feature that differentiates them from many others in Calabria: they consist of three jump levels for a total height of 1200 meters in height. The highest vantage point is in fact located at 1295 meters. The path leading to the falls is not easy and not recommended for the less experienced. The walk starts from the Menta dam (Roccaforte del Greco) which can be reached by car. From the dam you reach a steep descent where you can park. You continue on your way following the stream that leads to a fountain; from here begins the uphill path on clay. Arriving at a small crossroads, continue keeping to the right and after a short distance you will reach the Amendolea Valley. From here it is advisable to keep the fence as a reference point and to proceed with care and caution. Not far away you reach the first jump of the waterfall and if you are particularly trained on it can continue towards the other two. The water is crystal clear but very freezing due to the location, set in a dense vegetation of pine trees. Along the way you will pass through almond trees, vegetation with papilionate orchids, brooms and pine forests. ​ Municipality of Roccaforte del Greco 6. Forgiarelle or ferraina waterfalls The Aspromonte waterfall Location Samo The path starts from the refuge of Conavai plan . The falls are located not far from the municipality of Samos . The jump of the waterfall is very suggestive both for the thick vegetation and because the water jump covers an overhang of about 100 meters. ​ 7. Schioppo and Scalette waterfalls From the stream to the waterfalls Cirella hamlet (Municipality of Platì) The path is challenging because it crosses a part of the Abbruschiato stream . The starting point is the center of Cirella . From here you follow the road towards the mountain and after passing the houses of Maila you take an uphill path with a view of Monte Iacono. After a short stretch you go down towards the Schioppo Waterfall , at an altitude of 500 meters. Continue up to Piano Abbruschiato and descend further to the stream of the same name. Cross a stretch of the stream towards the mountain reaching the Cascade delle Scalette . After passing it, go up the ridge to the right and after a few curves you arrive at Serro Malacandrà . From here you can choose whether to reach the plateau (Palazzo locality) or return to Cirella. ​ Level: expert Journey time: 5h Length: 4 km Recommended period: from April to October 8. Cascades of Pietra Cappa An oasis near the well-known monolith Who to contact: Aspromonte Wild ​ If the visit to the monolith has become an obligatory stop for walkers in recent years, a lesser-known treasure is the waterfall located in its vicinity. To reach the waterfall, if you are in Bovalino, continue towards San Luca in the direction Pietra Lunga , otherwise from Natile to Natile Vecchio in the direction of Pietra Cappa . The falls are fed by a stream that flows upwards and is called Vallone Salice , while in the next part it is known as Torrente Ferolla . The stream flows to the left of the inhabited center of San Luca, merging with the larger Santa Venere stream. ​ Once you reach the waterfall, you will be impressed by the intact environment and by the bright color of the water mirror. ​ ​ ​ 9. Cascata di Salino Una sorgente nel cuore del Parco Nazionale dell'Aspromonte Comune di Mammola La cascata prende il nome dall’ omonimo torrente (affluente del fiume Torbido che nasce dal monte Limina ). La sorgente d'acqua, scorrendo tra le gole rocciose di quel territorio compie un doppio salto, di circa 70 metri , rimbalzando in maniera scrociante tra le rocce ed offrendo una piacevole suggestione ai visitatori. ​ L’ itinerario si snoda inizialmente su un breve tratto dello svincolo stradale, poi, sulla destra, si affianca alla S.G.C. Jonio-Tirreno . Si prosegue sulla strada sterrata risalendo il Fiume Torbido , subito dopo s’incrociano a destra il torrente Macariace , e a sinistra i ruderi della vecchia Miniera . A destra sulla collina sono ancora visibili due gallerie dalle quali si estraevano zolfo e arsenico. Arrivati all’incrocio del Sentiero dei Greci e del Vallone Salino vicino all’ex Scuola Elementare, si svolta a destra e dopo un centinaio di metri si imbocca a destra il Vallone Salino, incontaminato e particolarmente suggestivo; poi, risalendo il torrente, si arriva fino alla Cascata Salino . Si consiglia di percorrere questo tratto del percorso camminando sul bordo dell’alveo. Risalendo la piccola cascata dal lato destro si arriva al laghetto dove nei periodi estivi si può anche fare il bagno. Il percorso è accessibile a tutti - anche a camminatori meno esperti - ma è necessario possedere un'adeguata attrezzatura. ​ La cascata per le sue caratteristiche, viene utilizzata da numerosi appassionati del torrentismo , nel discendere il salto del Salino, utilizzando tecniche di discesa alpinistiche . ​ Curiosità ​ Il torrente serviva un tempo per la macerazione del lino e della ginestra: questa operazione consentiva alle tessitrici la lavorazione dei manufatti al telaio. Inoltre, ai lati del torrente gli scalpellini lavoravano la pietra granitica per fare gradini e portali per le case e macine per mulini e frantoi. ​ Fauna e flora : Il luogo è caratterizzato dalle rigogliose foreste di lecci , ornielli ed erica . L' orniello è usata dai pastori per i collari delle bestie e per costruire utensili, mentre il leccio viene utilizzato come legna da ardere o come carbone. L’erica è molto richiesta per la sua radice (ciocco), da cui si ricavano pregiate pipe , mentre dal fusto vengono ritagliati grandi e caratteristici cucchiai . Do you move independently? The encounter between sociology and architecture, combined with a passion for the journey, led me to carry out this project. ​ I believe that the enhancement of the territory and its rediscovery requires knowledge and dissemination, eliminating as much as possible preconceptions and stereotypes and animating it from the inside. ​ The idea of LET'S CA - which aims to be a platform in which to find clear information on Locride and the Grecanica area - stems from the need to share the authenticity of the territory and make it discover also to those who live there, with the ultimate aim of returning to live in rural areas and stimulate the local economy. ​ The period is favorable: Aspromonte has never been so at the center of attention and it is time to grasp its historical memory and beauty to its core. ​ The intent is to enhance the nature trails and improve local attractiveness with a logic of comparison and collaboration.
